Historically, it was also used by shepherds travelling long distances in arid environments as an appetite suppressor. Imphepho, Africa's sacred herb, is said to be the first medicine shown to traditional healers. The plant is mostly utilised in traditional rites and rituals, as well as in African traditional medicine, but it is occasionally used privately by individuals to ward off evil, remove negativity, meditate, or for other purposes.

This multi-faceted plant has proven anti-microbial properties and appears to work effectively as pain relief and as an anti-inflammatory, probably due to various volatile oils and flavonoids.

Cyclopia (Honeybush)
